We Don’t Need To Keep Reviving The Powerpuff Girls
Many viewers remember The Powerpuff Girls as a smart, satirical cartoon that helped shape a generation. The show, which declined in quality after creator Craig McCracken’s departure, ended in 2005; several spin-offs followed, none of them matching the original, and the series has largely been considered over.
Warner Bros. announced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival that a new Powerpuff Girls film is in development, though Variety notes there isn’t a deal in place: no script, no greenlight, no plot, no cast and not even a title. The announcement reads more like a search for collaborators than the start of a concrete project.
Previous revival attempts have had mixed results — a 2016 series that felt mediocre and ended after three seasons in 2019, a 2022 revival reportedly involving McCracken that has since gone quiet, and a live-action CW effort canceled before release.
