Watch The Raid: Redemption, an Indonesian action classic
Critics and movie-goers have been gushing about The Furious, which earned a rare 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, and its success may spark more interest in international martial-arts films. One title that shares many of the traits that made The Furious a crowd-pleaser is 2011's The Raid: Redemption, which also features Joe Taslim and Yayan Ruhian.
The Raid is an Indonesian action film written and directed by Gareth Evans and starring Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian, Joe Taslim, and Donny Alamsyah. It follows Rama, an expecting father who joins a 20-man operation to raid an apartment complex and arrest crime lord Tama Riyadi, only to find the group spotted and trapped inside as his skills are tested.
After an opening shootout that might seem ordinary at first, the film shifts when the bullets run out and the guns are tossed aside, showcasing highly choreographed action performed in Pencak Silat.
