Waddle urges Tonali and Guimaraes to be honest amid transfer talk
Ex-Newcastle star Waddle urged Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes to address transfer speculation directly rather than letting it fester.
He noted that Tonali is not involved at the World Cup and questioned who is driving the rumours: "If it's not the player, it's got to be his agent," he said.
Waddle pointed to a disappointing season for Newcastle as context, saying players might feel they need to move to play at the top level and to secure Champions League football — a phrase he called a convenient "get out card."
His advice was simple: be "man enough" to state your intentions. Either declare your commitment and stay, or be upfront about wanting to leave to chase Champions League football rather than hiding behind agents or the media.
