Virtua Fighter: Crossroads gets story trailer, due in 2027
Virtua Fighter: Crossroads is set to release sometime in 2027, and its new trailer puts the spotlight on a story mode built around an all-new character, Cielo. The setting is Vilasapara, a town that revolves around fighting; the trailer shows Cielo hanging out with friends, brawling in an arena and fleeing the Chinese mafia.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, best known for its narrative-driven Yakuza games, is developing Crossroads, and that influence is clear — the clip is almost entirely cutscenes with little traditional fighting-game action. There’s a chase sequence and a brief moment where the camera snaps into the perspective expected of a 3D fighter, but how the narrative mode will overlap with the series’ established characters, or whether those story combatants will be playable in multiplayer, remains unclear.
Akira Yuki, Pai Chan and Wolf Hawkfield have already been confirmed for the roster. Last year’s Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage was a remaster of the series’ most recent installment, which is twenty years old.
