Vinicius Jr stars as Matheus Cunha double helps Brazil beat Haiti
Matheus Cunha proved his credentials up front and Vinicius Jr had a hand in all three goals as Brazil found their stride at the World Cup with a 3-0 win over Haiti. The Real Madrid winger scored and assisted, leaving the Selecao well-positioned to top Group C, while Haiti are eliminated from the tournament in their first appearance since 1974.
An earlier Raphinha effort was ruled out for offside, but the opener arrived when Vinicius’ shot was parried and Hannes Delcroix’s attempted clearance found Cunha, who bundled the ball over the line. Cunha’s second followed a Vinicius pass as he ran off the shoulder of the last defender, and Vinicius completed the first-half scoring with a low finish from a Lucas Paqueta delivery.
Raphinha was later removed with a suspected hamstring injury. The second half was quieter as Brazil rotated heavily, bringing on Endrick and Gabriel Martinelli; Endrick received a rousing ovation and saw a goal ruled out for offside.
