NBA Finals star Victor Wembanyama exposed as worst kind of Star Wars fan

It has been a very good year for Victor Wembanyama. The 22-year-old French basketball player — towering at 7 ft 4 and 235 pounds — became a national star and was unanimously named the 2026 Western Conference Finals MVP after carrying the San Antonio Spurs to the championship against the ascendant Knicks.

A resurfaced 2023 interview on the podcast The Old Man and The Three shows Wembanyama ranking his favorite Star Wars films: Revenge of the Sith first, Attack of the Clones second, and The Empire Strikes Back third. The piece criticizes placing Attack of the Clones so highly, calling it the weakest of the prequels because of its CGI, awkward acting and the notorious sand scenes, and suggests the coliseum sequence is its only real redeeming moment.

The interview also quoted Wembanyama as saying he doesn’t “count the last three movies,” dismissing the sequel trilogy.
