Heather McComb said James Van Der Beek gave his blessing to her marriage to Scott Michael Campbell, which took place on May 30, before he lost his battle to cancer in February. She described their last conversation as "beautiful" and told Us Weekly that "James and [his wife], Kimberly [Van Der Beek], both knew that Scott and I were getting married" and were "so full of love and support and excitement." McComb, who was married to Van Der Beek between 2003 and 2010, said having his blessing before she walked down the aisle was "something that [she] will always hold in [her] heart." She praised the "beautiful" way the late "Varsity Blues" star "loved others … especially Kimberly" and their six children, and added, "I know that James would want me to celebrate our love, just like he celebrated the love that he had for Kimberly, which was so beautiful." The 49-year-old said she felt the presence of "all the people [she and Campbell] lost" at the ceremony, recalling a double rainbow, two ladybugs and two white doves.
