Valve says it still plans to release Steam Machine and Steam Frame by the end of summer, despite a year of steep component price hikes and shortages. The company confirmed the timetable as it expanded its Verified program, which takes effect today, even though neither device has a firm release date.

The Verified program rates Steam games by their performance on Valve hardware and by compatibility with Proton, the tool that allows Windows games to run on Linux. Introduced with Steam Deck, the system will be extended to cover Steam Machine and Steam Frame; Valve says a title that runs well on Deck will run well on Machine.

Developers are being asked to use the Steam Deck to ensure compatibility because "Steam Machine dev kit units are not currently available. The best way to ensure compatibility on Steam Machine is to work on your title's compatibility with Steam Deck.
