Valve working with AMD to bring FSR 4 support to Steam Machine
Pre-orders for the Steam Machine are live, though the reservation system makes access limited and the device’s price and memory demands have left some potential buyers underwhelmed. Valve says it remains committed to improving the system and is cooperating with AMD to add FSR 4 support for the Steam Machine’s RDNA 3-powered GPU.
"We’ve been working with AMD on FSR 4 support for Steam Machine," the company said, "and can confirm that it will be coming soon." AMD previously indicated it would bring FSR 4’s machine learning-based upscaling to RX 7000-series cards in July, but said no decision had been made about extending support to RDNA 3.5 GPUs in Ryzen AI Max APUs or the chips in recent AMD-powered handhelds.
That suggests the July timeline applies to RX 7000-series hardware only, and helps explain why Valve is working directly with AMD to secure support for its semi-custom 28 CU RDNA 3 GPU.
