Uwe Boll Denies He’s a Nazi After Germany Bans Citizen Vigilante
Uwe Boll has denied being a Nazi after Germany refused to give a rating to his new film Citizen Vigilante, a decision that prevented its release there. The Death Wish–inspired, anti-immigration movie was due for release in the U.S., but German authorities concluded it was likely to incite violence against migrants.
Citizen Vigilante follows a man who, after his wife is stabbed to death by a migrant criminal, embarks on a social-media-celebrated spree of murders; his targets are “mostly, but not exclusively, migrants.” The film’s themes and depiction of violence prompted the rating refusal and the resulting ban.
The lead role went to Armie Hammer, whose career stalled after allegations of sexual and emotional abuse and disturbing messages that referenced cannibalism. Hammer has one acting credit since 2022 before this film. Boll said he cast Hammer because the actor was “a great actor, and also because he was cancelled and wanted to work.
