Waymo and B2U Storage Solutions have a strategic supply agreement that will let used batteries from Waymo’s autonomous robotaxi fleet be repurposed as stationary energy storage for local power grids in California and Texas. B2U installs retired electric-vehicle batteries in large storage projects that capture excess renewable power during low demand and release it at peak times.

B2U has been repurposing thousands of used EV batteries and has already begun receiving smaller initial quantities from Waymo’s fleet. Waymo’s proactive maintenance program identifies opportunities to refresh batteries for fleet efficiency, and batteries that still have life are routed to second-life applications instead of being discarded.

Waymo’s current fleet of nearly 4,000 vehicles is mainly Jaguar I-Pace models with 90 kWh packs, and the company has begun introducing the Zeekr-made Ojai with a 93 kWh battery.
