Ubisoft co-founder Claude Guillemot dies in plane crash
Claude Guillemot, one of Ubisoft’s co-founders, died in a plane crash on June 19. A twin-engine propeller plane with two people on board crashed while attempting to land at an airport in La Baule; both occupants were killed. French news network ICI confirmed that one of the victims was Guillemot, who was 69 years old.
Ubisoft has not publicly acknowledged the death on its social media accounts. The company told Bloomberg: "Ubisoft was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the group and chairman of Guillemot Corp., in an accident. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
No further statements will be made at this time." Geoff Keighley shared the news on his X account. In March 1986 the Guillemot brothers—Christian, Claude, Gerard, Michel, and Yves—founded Ubisoft. Yves Guillemot remains the company’s chairman and CEO. Claude served as chairman of Guillemot Corporation, the family firm that owns the Djuced, Hercules Computer Technology, and Thrustmaster brands.
