Rayman Legends Retold's team says it is a coincidence that the remake is launching around the same time as a new GTA and the return of Assassin's Creed Black Flag. In 2013 Rayman Legends arrived a few weeks before the then-new GTA, and in 2026 Rayman Legends Retold is set to release a few weeks before the latest GTA, while Ubisoft is also remaking Black Flag.

Brand producer Loïc Gounon described the overlap as accidental: "I think it's a - I would not say random - but I think it's a bit of an accident that [both] remakes collided a bit the same year." He added that Black Flag and Legends originally released in the same year, and that, unlike Assassin's Creed — which also has new games in development — Rayman's current aim is to relaunch the brand: "our context, as we explained, is more relaunching the brand." The team noted Legends Retold will launch farther from GTA's release than before, which they hope will limit sales impact, and suggested Retold's success could enable a new 3D Rayman.
