Two-thirds of EU citizens back UK rejoining, survey finds
Two-thirds of EU citizens would support Britain rejoining the bloc, and most UK voters say Brexit has harmed the issues they care about and want closer ties, a survey finds. The European Council on Foreign Relations polling across 15 countries showed 66% of respondents saw UK membership as a very good, good or “neither a good nor a bad” idea.
Support ranged from 56% in Bulgaria and 59% in France and Italy to 75% in the Netherlands and Denmark, and even many voters for EU-critical parties backed closer relations: 71% of Poland’s Confederation supporters, 58% of Germany’s AfD backers and 58% of France’s National Rally voters.
European leaders have reflected this openness: Emmanuel Macron has said the door is “always open” and Pedro Sánchez said Spain would “absolutely” support British membership. Alexander Stubb named the UK as a candidate for membership, saying: “We need a UK voice in Europe.
