Police in Kansas City, Missouri, have detained two people after equipment belonging to the England national team was taken from a vehicle en route to their World Cup base. The Kansas City Missouri Police Department said: “We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening.

Two subjects of interest were taken into custody pending further investigation.” Among the items reportedly taken were custom boots belonging to captain Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, along with a large number of match balls and essential training gear. Such personalised footwear is hard to replace at short notice, leaving backroom staff scrambling for alternatives in Kansas City.

The loss occurred during the move from England’s pre-tournament camp in West Palm Beach, Florida, to their official base at Swope Soccer Village and was only noticed when staff began unloading the vehicle on Friday evening.
