Turkey 0-1 Paraguay: World Cup 2026 reaction

Paraguay beat Turkey 1-0 at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium thanks to an early goal from Galarza in the first minute and a red card for Almiron at 45+3. Paraguay held on with ten men to secure the victory. Turkey dominated large parts of the match, registering almost 80% possession, 32 shots, 51 touches in the box and 12 corners, but could not find a way through the resilient Paraguayan defence.

The closing stages were frantic. Demiral rose at 90+7 and sent a header wide, and at 90+9 Arda Guler curled a delivery that the goalkeeper Gill punched clear. Turkey pushed desperately in added time but Paraguay defended deep and cleared the final threats. The full-time whistle produced emotional scenes as several Turkey players fell to their knees and some cried, while Paraguay sprinted around the pitch to embrace teammates and staff.
