US President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on Monday aimed at accelerating quantum computing development and upgrading cryptography to withstand quantum attacks. One order calls for a "cohesive, whole-of-government approach" to speed deployment and commercialization, protect sensitive technologies, and cooperate with allies so adversaries cannot use QIST to undermine national security.

Agencies must update the National Quantum Strategy within 180 days to support commercialization and industry partnerships, and the order establishes Quantum Computer for Application Development and Discovery Science (QC-ADDS) to pursue a quantum computer at a scale intended to "initiate the era of quantum-enabled scientific discovery." The second order focuses on securing systems against quantum-assisted cryptographic attacks and directs the Office of Management and Budget and the National Cyber Director to lead an accelerated, nationwide migration to post-quantum cryptography to keep national data secure.
