'Toy Story' Launches Into a Brave New Era
After 31 years, Toy Story has come to the end of an era as the franchise shifts its focus with Toy Story 5. At an advance screening and in conversations at Pixar, the film's cast and creative team described the project as a labor of love, and the new installment moves beyond pure nostalgia to explore fresh emotional ground.
Toy Story 5 co-director Kenna Harris said: "Well, I totally get it, because I think everyone comes in with these feelings about Toy Story that are very strong, and it's a high bar to pass. These movies are all very good. But if you're nostalgic for Toy Story in any way, this movie really delivers, because it's talking about nostalgia and how the characters are experiencing that feeling too.
The devices in the film are explored in a way that might surprise you. And the playtime sequences, especially — it's a blast." The film puts Jessie at the center, while Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return as Woody and Buzz Lightyear but take on supporting roles.
