Reviews posted online ahead of the film’s June 19 release show Toy Story 5 holding a 93% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 89 reviews. That places the sequel among the franchise’s highest-rated entries: Toy Story (1995) and Toy Story 2 (1999) each sit at 100%, Toy Story 3 at 98% and Toy Story 4 at 96%, while the spin-off Lightyear is at 74%.

In MovieWeb’s review, Mark Keizer writes: "Toy Story 5 expands the thematic palette of the series by wondering how to stoke the fire of a child’s imagination in a world increasingly geared toward the passive intake of meaningless content and illusory friendships built on the hollow promises of social media.

Its solution is as rich in nuance as it is in laughs and thrills." Toy Story 5 is directed by Andrew Stanton and McKenna Harris, written by Andrew Stanton and McKenna Jean Harris, and lists a runtime of 102 minutes.
