Toy Story 5 breaks 2026 box office record with franchise-best opening
Toy Story 5 marks a strong return for Pixar's longest-running franchise. Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Jesse (Joan Cusack) and the other toys reckon with big tech as their eight-year-old owner Bonnie (Scarlett Spears) starts favoring a tablet toy named Lily (Greta Lee).
The film has earned glowing reviews and strong audience response. Variety put the film's domestic opening at $152 million, the biggest debut of 2026 and the best opening weekend in Toy Story history, surpassing Toy Story 4's $120 million. It also ranks as the second-largest animated opening ever, behind Incredibles 2's $182.7 million.
Worldwide, Toy Story 5 has taken in $312 million. The movie cost $250 million to make, more than Pixar has ever spent on a project, and would need about two to 2.5 times that to be profitable. With its early receipts, Toy Story 5 is on track to join The Super Mario Galaxy Movie among potential billion-dollar earners and could become the biggest film of the year.
