Tottenham sign Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m

Tottenham have confirmed the acquisition of Dutch international Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth a reported £52 million. The centre-back is the third major arrival of the summer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, following the free transfers of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson.

Van Hecke, 26, has signed a long-term contract and reunites with head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who oversaw his development at Brighton. The fee reflects his growing status as a Netherlands regular and comes while he is competing at the World Cup. Calling the move "a dream come true," Van Hecke cited the club’s stature and the chance to work again with De Zerbi.

He mentioned Micky van de Ven and said he looks forward to walking out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in front of Spurs fans. Sporting director Johan Lange said the club’s interest was the result of long-term scouting and praised Van Hecke’s technical and defensive qualities, maturity and professionalism.
