Tottenham have opened talks with Newcastle over Sandro Tonali, submitting a formal bid of around £75–80m. Newcastle rejected the opening offer, saying it falls short of the club’s valuation. Newcastle value Tonali at £100m and have informed his camp they will not sanction a sale unless that figure is met.

The club’s bargaining power is reinforced by his move from AC Milan three years ago and a contract extension signed during his 10-month gambling ban, keeping him tied to St James’ Park until 2029. Roberto De Zerbi has long tracked the Italy international and views him as a central piece for his Tottenham project.

The manager has previously said he wanted to bring Tonali to Sassuolo after his first year at AC Milan and admitted he had hoped to work with him while at Brighton. Spurs’ approach has sharpened interest from across the Premier League, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City all monitoring the situation.
