I took my kids to a family-friendly pub to watch the World Cup
Jonathan Stone, 44, of New Canaan, Connecticut, took his two children, Parker, 6, and Jameson, 3, to watch the World Cup, and the three were all rooting for England. Stone got hooked on European football in college, and the children began wearing England kits as soon as they were born because family and friends sent themed onesies.
The pub in Norwalk was family-friendly, with World Cup coloring sheets and space for the kids to build with Lego. He ordered their favorite Shirley Temples and chicken tenders with fries; the children recognized many players, joined in age-appropriate chants, and showed a clear grasp of rules like offside, fouls, tackles, and yellow and red cards.
Stone knew some Americans disapprove of taking children to a bar and expected judgment, but he said kids aren’t harmed by being in a pub where alcohol is served.
