Tom Hardy Poised to Revive Thriller Series Taboo After Nine Years

Tom Hardy's recent dismissal from MobLand has left his schedule clearer and raised hopes that he can finally return to Taboo. The eight-episode thriller, created by Hardy and his father Chips, is set in the 1800s and follows James Delaney as he returns to the UK after more than a decade in Africa.

Taboo was renewed in 2017, but a second season has not appeared after nine years. Hardy said they were writing Season 2 in March 2025, yet there has been little public progress since then.

The series is rooted in a story by Chips and Tom Hardy; the source material itself has not been made public, though Chips Hardy's reputation as an author is noted. Ridley Scott is also connected to the show, and many viewers see Hardy as the series' central figure.

With MobLand reportedly looking at replacements, Hardy's commitments may be looser, giving a clearer path back to Taboo. Fans will have to wait for an official return date, but the recent change in his schedule gives reason for cautious optimism.
