Tom Cruise Unrecognizable in New Trailer for Digger
Warner Bros. released a "Tom Cruise Retrospective" trailer for Digger, which is set to hit theaters on Oct. 26 in IMAX. It opens with a montage of Cruise's most iconic films, then the final 30 seconds reveal new footage showing him under heavy makeup, hyping himself up before what appears to be a speech.
Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, an elderly oil baron with a heavy Southern accent whose company has apparently caused an ecological disaster. The character is tasked with cleaning up the mess and averting an implied nuclear threat, and the brief footage pairs sweeping visuals with an outrageous central performance.
Alejandro González Iñárritu directs the comedy epic, which balances broad storytelling with weightier thematic ideas. The film marks a return to an eccentric side of Cruise's screen work not seen since his memorable role in Tropic Thunder. The ensemble includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman as the President, Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Michael Stuhlbarg, Emma D'Arcy, Robert John Burke, and Burn Gorman.
