Born on the Fourth of July, the 145-minute 1989 drama, will return to streaming on Peacock on July 1. Tom Cruise stars as Ron Kovic, a U.S. Marine sergeant who was wounded and paralyzed in Vietnam; the film, adapted from a 1976 autobiography, follows 20 years of his life from childhood and military service to anti-war activism.

Oliver Stone directed the film as the second entry in his Vietnam trilogy, following Platoon and preceding Heaven & Earth. Critics have given it an 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while viewers rate it at 76%—responses that reflect its emotional intensity and enduring impact.

The movie is not currently available on U.S. streaming services, but its arrival on Peacock comes ahead of celebrations for America’s 250th birthday. The film’s unflinching look at physical and psychological trauma has kept it relevant over the years. Cruise will return to theaters later this year in the black comedy Digger, directed by Alejandro G.
