TMNT: The Last Ronin reimagined as a gritty crime thriller
Back in October 2020, IDW Comics released a take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles unlike anything before. Six years later, the bestselling limited series has been adapted into a new noir novel from Abrams Books, with the Escorza Brothers returning to contribute interior illustrations.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin follows the last surviving Ninja Turtle as he seeks to avenge the deaths of his family by taking down the grandson of the Shredder, who has inherited the villain's empire in a crime‑ridden, future-set New York City. The story was conceived in the late 1980s by co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird; Eastman rediscovered notes about the idea in the late 2010s and developed it with Tom Waltz into a five-part series illustrated by the Escorza Brothers and Ben Bishop.
Now comics veteran Erik Burnham has adapted the series into a gritty novel.
