Timothy Olyphant's HBO Miniseries Full Circle Can Be Binged in One Night
Full Circle is a six-episode miniseries created for HBO Max, directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by Ed Solomon as a modern take on Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low. Timothy Olyphant leads a cast that also includes Dennis Quaid, Claire Danes and Zazie Beetz. The plot opens when Savitri Mahabir, the boss of a Guyanese crime syndicate, orders the kidnapping of Jared, the overprotected teenage son of celebrity chef Sam.
A case of mistaken identity derails the ransom plan and brings U.S. Postal Inspection Service agent Melody Harmony into the investigation, while Sam’s husband Derek and his father, Chef Jeff, are pulled into the chaos. Soderbergh’s direction favors striking visuals and a careful use of sound, highlighting smaller emotional moments rather than big set-piece beats.
The series preserves the original’s moral rhythm but reshapes characters and context: the family’s fortune is shown as built on corruption and occult rituals add new darkness to the remake.
