Tim Sweeney: Valve is missing opportunities without Fortnite and Genshin
Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, says "They have a nice thing going on on PC," but notes Steam misses large parts of the audience because it does not host Fortnite, Riot's games or Genshin Impact. Some exclusions are deliberate: Riot competes with Valve, and League of Legends began as a spiritual successor to the original DotA while Steam hosts Dota 2.
Fortnite launched a year before the Epic Games Store took off, making its presence on Steam unlikely. Sweeney argues Valve is "missing out on a lot of opportunity that I think they could have if they took the more forward-looking, open view that Epic has taken, and Microsoft has taken," and points to competitors' approaches.
