Tim Allen on Galaxy Quest 2, a director's cut and Tom Hanks

Tim Allen renewed hopes for a Galaxy Quest 2 in a recent interview while keeping plot details guarded. He suggested Tom Hanks would be perfect as a Thermian leader like Mathesar — the squid-like aliens who used "Appearance Generators" to imitate humans — and pointed to their innate trust and naivety as key sources of the film's comedy.

"[Tom] would have to learn Mathesar's language," Allen said, imitating the Thermians' stilted speech. Enrico Colantoni has called Mathesar his "favorite all-around experience," praising the high-calibre cast that included Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell and the late Alan Rickman.

Rainn Wilson made his acting debut as Lahnk, a Thermian, and Missi Pyle, Patrick Breen, Colantoni and Jed Rees also portrayed Thermians.
