Threads hits 500M users, adds Your Algo and community features
Nearly three years after launching as a competitor to Twitter (now X), Meta-owned Threads has reached 500 million monthly active users. The platform also introduced a set of personalization and community tools, led by a new Your Algo feature that lets users control what appears in their feed.
Your Algo builds on the platform’s Dear Algo tool from February, which required public posts to request more or less of certain topics. With the new option, users can privately tell Threads to show more or less of selected subjects for one, three or seven days; only the requester can see those settings.
The feature is rolling out today in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand. Threads is taking Communities out of beta and adding a Communities Hub so users can find groups more easily, while communities get distinct icons to make them simpler to spot.
