They Will Kill You Tops HBO Max After Box Office Flop

They Will Kill You has climbed to the number one spot on HBO Max globally and in the United States, overtaking titles such as The Bride!, Contagion, A History of Violence and Ready Player One. Directed by Kirill Sokolov and produced by Andy and Bárbara Muschietti, the R-rated mash-up blends stylized action, brutal gore, horror and dark comedy.

Zazie Beetz stars as an ex-con working as a housekeeper in a New York high-rise that turns out to be a demonic cult’s death trap, and the film follows her as she unleashes a brutally effective set of skills to survive the night. The movie struggled at the box office, earning $19 million worldwide against a reported $20 million budget, but it found stronger footing with critics and audiences on streaming.
