Sony revealed God of War: Laufey during last night’s State of Play, sending Faye into a divine afterlife that turns out to be mostly a place where you get punched. The reveal also introduced Phranque, a sentient cube who will accompany Faye on her journey. A Meet the Cast video shows the role of Phranque played by Jack Quaid, best known for Hughie Campbell in The Boys and earlier roles in The Hunger Games, Scream and Oppenheimer.

Behind-the-scenes footage includes Quaid acting alongside Deborah Ann Woll as Faye and Perlina Lau as the sentient sword-ribbon Rue while strapped into a cubic armature of PVC pipe; his hexahedral mocap exoskeleton sits in the background as he says, "Phranque will stop at nothing to protect all the living creatures that inhabit this world." Game productions that capture facial, vocal and motion work benefit from actors sharing the same space, and the footage makes clear someone decided the most believable way to portray a cube was to have an actor become one, briefly.
