The Walking Dead: Dead City Returns With Action-Packed Season 3 Trailer

AMC has released the first full-length trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City season three, ahead of a July 26 return. The teaser brings back Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan as Negan and Maggie, the franchise's longest-running grudge match. The spin-off drops the pair into a walled-off Manhattan overrun by the dead, where they must survive each other as much as the walkers.

AMC's synopsis has them setting aside differences to build the first thriving community in Manhattan since the apocalypse, only for fresh chaos to test whether either has actually changed. The new footage shifts tone from the bleak misery of earlier seasons toward a lighter register, even finding room for comedy.

Jimmi Simpson turns up as a Manhattan bartender who claims he can talk to the undead, and the trailer uses a needle-drop of "New York Groove." A refreshed roster includes Raúl Castillo, Aimee Garcia, Michael Emery and Logan Kim as Maggie's now-teenaged son Hershel.
