The Tick (2016) is coming to Netflix on July 9
After a decade as a Prime Video exclusive, the 2016 series The Tick will arrive on Netflix on July 9. The show first debuted as a pilot in August 2016, returned a year later with 11 more episodes, and was renewed for a 10-episode second season before its cancellation, leaving a total of 22 episodes.
Ben Edlund’s 2016 take brought new levels of humanity and optimism by digging into the relationship between the Tick (Peter Serafinowicz) and Arthur (Griffin Newman). The series opens with Arthur haunted by his father’s death at the hands of the supervillain The Terror (Jackie Earle Haley); though The Terror is reportedly dead, Arthur investigates, meets the Tick, and is inspired to become the Tick’s sidekick in a flying moth suit that many say looks like a bunny.
Earlier adaptations naturally centered the titular hero, but the Tick’s impenetrable psyche—no origin story, little self-knowledge, and even uncertainty about whether his blue outfit is costume or skin—made him hard to relate to.
