The Sopranos, created in 1997 and first aired in January 1999, ran through June 10, 2007, ending with a controversial finale that reshaped television. The series helped define what many call a second Golden Age of TV, earning Peabody Awards for its first two seasons, 21 Emmys and five Golden Globes.

Physical media has been in flux as retailers scaled back Blu-ray and 4K stocking, and streamers largely stepped away from discs. Boutique labels remain active and major studios continue catalog upgrades through outlets like Warner Archive, and now The Sopranos — long without a 4K treatment — is finally being upgraded to Ultra High-Definition.

The forthcoming 4K box set will include 28 discs covering all six seasons. It is not yet known whether the upgraded 4K UHD episodes will appear on HBO Max, so the only guaranteed way to get the high-definition treatment for now is to purchase the set when it is released on Dec.
