The Season drops viewers onto a rotating fleet of mega yachts and lets the Hong Kong skyline, couture, and lavish interiors do a lot of the work. Our entry point is Cola (Jessie Mei Li), an economics major from Chicago who interviews for a wealth-management job with the Hext family — and is secretly inside their world to settle a long-standing debt.

The series looks spectacular in daylight: the harbor at golden hour, the vertical cityscape, and polished interiors that invite gawking. Those images often outshine the script. Dialogue frequently reads as exposition, with characters announcing relationships and backstory instead of living them, and the tone can feel stiff.

Still, performances from Li, Toby Stephens, Justin Chien, and Yvonne Chapman help paper over rougher patches and keep the revenge plot compelling enough to push to the next episode. The Season aims for the dynastic glamour of Crazy Rich Asians and the social bite of The White Lotus but lacks the writing depth that lets those shows land their satiric teeth.
