AMC CEO Adam Aron said Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey recorded the company's highest first-day ticket sales for any studio-released movie since 2022, even though the film does not open until July 17. He apologized for long ticketing lines on the AMC website and app.

Based on Homer's epic, the film's trailer drew more than 120 million views in its first 24 hours. The cast includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattison, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, and Lupita Nyong'o. IMAX began selling tickets for select screens and showtimes a year in advance, and premium large-format showtimes had another advance drop on Thursday.

The build-up follows Nolan's 2023 hit Oppenheimer, which won seven Academy Awards and became a cultural phenomenon alongside Greta Gerwig's Barbie. Aron noted only AMC's music-oriented projects—Beyoncé's Renaissance concert film in 2023 and two Taylor Swift releases in 2023 and 2025—have posted higher first-day sales since 2022.
