It has been six years since Far Cry 6, and speculation about Far Cry 7 has been running for years. Rumors of a Taken-style plot with real-world timed objectives and the prospect of a greater multiplayer focus have left some unease about rushing players through what should be an open, explorative world.

That unease is compounded by a large company-wide restructure at Ubisoft, which consolidated brands under five creative houses and placed Far Cry, Assassin's Creed and Rainbow Six Siege under Vantage Studios. CEO Yves Guillemot described short-term financials as disappointing, while pointing to major releases for top IPs slated for 2027 and beyond.

At the same time, Ubisoft has been experimenting with generative AI in the current Far Cry 7 build — testing a system called Teammates alongside a separate gen‑AI NPC initiative. The studio’s new partnership ties raise the possibility of tools such as Tencent’s Giinex or GameGen‑X being used to power procedurally generated NPCs or open worlds, which many players find worrying.
