The Lord of the Rings Star Says His Role in The Hunt for Gollum Is Small
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, directed by Andy Serkis, is set to arrive on December 17, 2027. The film returns to the familiar Third Age to follow Gollum in the years before The Fellowship of the Ring.
Elijah Wood will return as Frodo Baggins, though he says his screen time will be limited. "My part to play is relatively small, but I'm just excited to go back and spend some time in New Zealand and see old friends," he said, adding that reuniting the original creative team "feels like a family reunion."
Serkis reprises Gollum, and the cast also includes Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Lee Pace as Thranduil, Kate Winslet, Leo Woodall, and Jamie Dornan as Aragorn. Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are involved behind the scenes.
The story will chart Gollum's pursuit of Bilbo and his gradual change from Sméagol to Gollum, and it will show Rangers searching for him as they hope to learn the Ring's location before the Dark Lord.
