The Iron Claw to leave Netflix on June 18
A24's wrestling drama The Iron Claw, directed by Sean Durkin, is scheduled to leave Netflix on June 18. The film dramatizes the rise and fall of the Von Erich family in a somber biographical story. It stars Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White and Harris Dickinson as Kevin, Kerry and David Von Erich, with Holt McCallany as patriarch Fritz and supporting turns from Maura Tierney and Lily James.
The brothers become top wrestling stars but suffer devastating losses; Kevin becomes the lone surviving member as his brothers die from substance abuse and suicide. Durkin removed Chris Von Erich from the script, calling his story "one more tragedy that the film couldn't really withstand." On the surface the movie can feel unbearably bleak and was "completely ignored by the Oscars," yet it has been praised for its performances—particularly a career-best turn from Efron—and for exploring the tensions between Fritz and his sons.
