Directed by action choreographer-turned-filmmaker Kenji Tanigaki, The Furious assembles a cast of fighters and actors including Xie Miao, Joe Taslim, Jeeja Yanin, Yang Enyu, Brian Le, Joey Iwanaga and Yayan Ruhian. Its premise is straightforward: a man witnesses his daughter being kidnapped and embarks on a violent quest to get her back.

Critics have praised the film’s unrelenting martial-arts spectacle and fight choreography. Julian Roman called it "a hurricane of savage beatdowns," and other reviews describe it as "pure, ferocious action" with "fight choreography that ranks among the best seen in years." Some critics have even labeled it "one of the best martial arts films ever made." After debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival, The Furious briefly held a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes before a single negative review dropped that score; it now stands at 99% from critics and 97% from audiences.
