The Furious earns near-universal praise from critics and fans
Movie rating aggregators usually show a split between critics and audiences, so it's notable when a film clears 90% on both Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer and its Popcornmeter. 2026 has already produced a few such cross-over hits — Hoppers, Obsession and Project Hail Mary — and the latest addition is the Hong Kong action thriller The Furious.
Directed by Kenji Tanigaki, The Furious centers on two men searching for loved ones caught in a human trafficking ring. Its martial arts choreography, blending melee weapons with Chinese Wushu and Indonesian Pencak Silat, delivers a relentless stream of fight scenes that many viewers have praised as some of the best staged in recent memory.
Despite occasional clunky dialogue, rough dubbing and a few CGI stumbles, the film currently holds a 97% Tomatometer score and a 95% Popcornmeter score, earning Certified Hot status. Limited domestic marketing and a modest number of screenings mean The Furious is unlikely to become a box office juggernaut or a major contender for domestic awards this year.
