Creators have a three-season plan for The Boroughs

The Boroughs is a Netflix sci‑fi thriller set in a New Mexico retirement community where Sam Cooper (Alfred Molina) moves in and witnesses a creature kill his neighbor. The eight‑episode series premiered May 21, 2026, and features Geena Davis, Bill Pullman, Alfre Woodard, Denis O'Hare, Clarke Peters and Jane Kaczmarek.

Co‑creators are Will Matthews and Jeffrey Addiss, with the Duffer Brothers serving as executive producers. Showrunner Jeffrey Addiss says they “have a very specific three‑season plan, and we think we know the last shot of the last scene of the last episode.” He added the Season 1 ending was designed to function as a possible series finale so the eight episodes “feel emotionally complete,” while still leaving room to reveal more about “Mother” if the show continues.

By the end of Season 1 viewers learn the truth about Mother, her children and the retirement community—though Addiss says there is still much more that can be explained if the series continues.
