Apple unveiled several AI-powered updates for the Photos app at WWDC, and the iOS 27 developer beta introduces three AI photo editing tools: an improved Clean Up tool, Extend, and Reframe (Spatial Reframing). I tried the enhanced Clean Up on a street‑performer photo to remove passersby.

Clean Up automatically highlighted the people, and tapping each one removed them; the AI erased the extras and filled in the background more cleanly than before. For Extend, I used a tightly framed self‑portrait, pinched to zoom out and moved myself to the lower‑left; the image was expanded and the added area matched the scene well.

Reframe let me shift the angle of a statue photo, repositioning the view so the statue’s face took on a more sideways glance, and the before/after comparison showed the change clearly. Although I was reluctant to let AI alter original photos, I found the tools useful and fun.
