Korean Action Series 'Teach You a Lesson' Becomes a Global Streaming Hit
Released on Jun. 5, Teach You a Lesson has quickly emerged as Netflix's newest K-drama hit. Despite limited attention in the U.S., the series secured a place among the streamer's biggest shows of the year after a strong global debut. Based on the webtoon Get Schooled by Chae Yong-taek and Han Ga-ram, the story is set in a slightly dystopian world where respect for elders and teachers has vanished.
Students run riot and a government inspector, Na Hwa-jin — played by Kim Mu-yeol — is dispatched to restore order, preferring fists over statistics or a clipboard. The blend of delinquent-drama tropes, elaborate fight choreography and an intentionally over-the-top premise has left many viewers calling the show cathartic.
In its first week the series logged 6.4 million views and more than 68 million hours viewed, making it the number one non-English-language series on Netflix this week and the platform's top show globally, ahead of The Witness and Michael Jackson: The Verdict.
