Target Seems To Be Artificially Increasing Prices On Pokémon TCG Products
Some retailers are raising prices on Pokémon TCG products rather than letting scalpers profit. After GameStop moved prices into scalper territory, Target is now inflating the cost of certain boxes, tacking on an extra couple of dollars to popular items to take advantage of scarcity and demand.
Those increases were introduced June 26 and have remained in place with no warning or explanation. The shift sits awkwardly alongside Target’s recent anti-scalper measures, such as breaking seals on products before they leave the store and requiring ID.
One example: the Ascended Heroes Booster Bundle has an MSRP of $26.94, was previously sold for $29.99, and is now listed at $31.99 — nearly 20 percent above the manufacturer price. Similar boosts have appeared on booster bundles from other popular sets, suggesting retailers are increasingly cutting out the middleman and raising prices themselves.
