Tales of Eternia remaster returns after 26 years
Tales of Eternia Remastered was unveiled during Nintendo's June Direct and will launch on October 16 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PS4 and PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC (Steam). Originally released in Japan in 2000 and in North America as Tales of Destiny 2 in 2001, Eternia is the third game in the Tales series and joins a line of remasters tied to the series' 30th anniversary.
Where the recent Tales of Berseria Remastered drew criticism for adding little to a modern release, bringing Eternia up to date has drawn a warmer reception. The game uses an early 2D ancestor of the series' action combat and appears to have been updated considerably: new options include a boost function to adjust XP gains and encounter frequency, a high-speed auto-battle toggle, instant battle retry and quick recovery, plus an "Extreme" difficulty available from the start and an "Unknown" setting unlocked after beating the game.
