Directed and written by Waititi and Clement, the 86-minute movie earned strong critical praise and sits at 96% positive on Rotten Tomatoes; Clement recalled it cost less than $1 million and was made in about a month of improvisation.

The franchise later shifted into an FX television series set in New York that leaned more heavily on scripted material with occasional improv.
