Tabletop Tavern is a roguelike real-time strategy with a demo available ahead of its release next week. Rather than defending cities on a world map, you move along a branching path of battles toward a final boss, building an army to take on the act’s concluding fight.

The game’s defining twist is a roguelike layer that lets you recruit defeated foes, producing odd mixtures of units. One playthrough paired ghostly cavalry with treants taken from a final town, and the treants ended up the last green men standing. Your chosen hero grants specific bonuses—Ser Edric Valeward, for example, prefers rare and charge units—and items add further effects that shape your forces.

Settlements act as rest sites you can either recover at to heal units or sack to trigger a tougher battle with better rewards. The lower-stakes, repeat-run structure encourages experimentation: if a run fails, you try again with what you’ve learned.
